Snotty Nose Rez Kids

SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS

Snotty Nose Rez Kids (SNRK) are an Indigenous hip hop duo currently based out of Vancouver, BC. Proudly hailing from the Haisla Nation, SNRK creates music that pays homage to their upbringing on the Rez in Kitimaat Village while also touching upon larger themes related to Indigenous identity, politics and resistance in ways that engage a diverse audience.

Having released 2 full-length albums in 2017, SNRK have taken the hip hop scene by storm, creating music that is both politically charged and emotionally driven while also being upbeat, energetic and lifting. SNRK released their debut self-titled album in January 2017 and their second album, The Average Savage, in September 2017.

SNRK pride themselves as being community advocates, consistently working with Indigenous youth and Indigenous visual artists to give life to their work beyond the music they make. They are truly grassroots hip hop, conscious lyricism at its finest, skillfully weaving the past into their lyrics and showing us to the way to the future.

They are currently working on an EP with Indigenous hip hop heavyweight Drezus, a collaborative project with the popular Northwest Coast duo Mob Bounce, as well as their third album, Rez Bangers & Koolapops, to be released fall 2018 on RPM Records.

Jeremy Dutcher

JEREMY DUTCHER

Jeremy Dutcher is a Toronto-based composer and vocal artist. An operatic tenor, Dutcher blends his Wolastoq First Nation roots into the music he creates. His style combines musical aesthetics into something entirely new, shapeshifting between classical, contemporary, traditional, and jazz. His debut release Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa (Our Maliseets Songs), is part composition, part musical ethnography, part linguistic reclamation. The melodies come from the oldest known field recordings of the Indigenous peoples along the St. John (Wolastoq) River basin. Jeremy prioritizes the Wolastoqey language in his music in hopes of inspiring other young Maliseets to learn this endangered language. Dutcher won Opera New Brunswick’s Young Artist Award in 2012 and most recently received the Canada Council for the Arts Aboriginal Music Award. He studied classical music at Dalhousie University and spent time learning from Passamaqouddy song carrier Maggie Paul. Besides music, Jeremy has been active community organizer both in Indigenous and LGBT communities. In collaboration with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he organized the first national gathering on Two Spirit reconciliation.
